<%TiberiusAudley> So…I’d like to start things off by saying…It’s very nice we finally have a contiguous overworld. One of the things that made Mythos feel so hollow previously (other than the Fellblades and Darkhunters, of course), was the disjointed road system.

<Ferrous> I agree, and being able to avoid a few more of the loads while we get rid of the feeling of disjointed, hey. Thats a plus.

<%G-15> According to the devs, 100% of the world is done, 70% of the monster spawnes.

<Ferrous> Might run into more people as well, make it feel like an MMO

<%TiberiusAudley> The running into more people is going to help a lot in making it feel, not just like an MMO, but making it feel multiplayer period.

<%G-15> How many players could share an Overworld ?

<Deathtiny> depends on how it feels on lower end PCs to meet a large pack of ppl

<%TiberiusAudley> They were saying something like 100 or 150, I believe. So about three times the population of the most populated Stonehill I ever saw.

<%TiberiusAudley> Regarding Taylor’s comment — switching not being allowed everywhere. I think that’ll be key for places like the Shadowlands. I know I tended to jump to a different town instance anytime I got ambushed in town.

<AsE-CSS|Darkside> you might take a look at this becoming into a ‘blob’ type mmo

<%TiberiusAudley> The structure of the overworld is fundamentally different in a lot of ways. AOE and ricochet skills won’t be as effective as they are in enclosed dungeon spaces ( or the old enclosed outdoor spaces ). Height also figures in - your meteor nova won’t track up and over the rise of a hill, it’ll hit it. Terrain makes a difference. Big trees make a difference, as do bodies of water, bridges, buildings, etc.

<%TiberiusAudley> That brings up the question on whether or not aiming will be “smart”…Hopefully characters will know to aim down-hill, rather than in a straight line.

<Ferrous> I think youll aim wherever you click, so if you click down a hill

<Ferrous> Theres a good chance if it becomes a flat surface you just hit it at an angle

<%TiberiusAudley> The game already has a physics engine, so it should work well enough to be able to “figure out” which way to explode. I’d like to see Deafening Explosion work in a sphere shape now, rather than a Nova.

<%TiberiusAudley> Jumping…is useless. You cannot escape the Quad Laser.

<Firedogking> I have a screenshot of the boss that ported to follow me from the dungeon to dungeon safezone entrance.

<%TiberiusAudley> I know Mabinogi countered monster spawn camping by making you get less and less EXP for each kill you got in the same area.

<Deathtiny> well if your AEs do less damage / the exp is worse compared to dungeons .. only special drops/materials can make you want to camp

<Ferrous> Which is a horrible idea

<%TiberiusAudley> Mabinogi’s another game with a contiguous overworld and instanced dungeons..

<Ferrous> Getting less exp for being in the same area isnt a good idea, maybe base it off smaller areas

<%TiberiusAudley> And it’s handled fairly well considering the game doesn’t have a random dungeon generator

<Ddr> i think xp lessened or monsters strengthened would make it more interesting

<Nuadre> than in dungeons… the only concern I’d have is quest that require mobs from the overworld

<%TiberiusAudley> Cutting EXP wouldn’t be enough, I vote cutting drop rates too!

<Saveme> Make us explore by leaving a few quests in Isolated areas

<Firedogking> Well I like the idea of cool Epic quest chains.

<%TiberiusAudley> One of the best things about the new overworld is that it’ll allow for some quests to be taken OUT of dungeons…and put them where
multiple quests can be completed simultaneously, rather than shoving them into individual dungeons…

<%TiberiusAudley> Throwing them all in isolated instances makes it so tedious to complete those first quests of the game.

<%G-15> We still need to see how big the Overworld actually is, and how mayn landmarks there is.

<%TiberiusAudley> Raskolnikov on the forums linked a video for Warhammer Online, regarding quests…and they had something called Exploration quests — Saveme just touched on that. We really do need quests that encourage epxploring the world.

The types and variety of quests that we can do should expand greatly as a result of this – hunt down a band of Bandits threatening the northern road! Find a rare berry growing in the mountains for an Apothecary! Fend off an attack on Stonehill Market! We’re extremely excited by the quest opportunities this opens up for us.

<%TiberiusAudley> I really love the idea of the “Fend off an attack on Stonehill Market”…You’re sitting there at the vendor, and suddenly you hear a commotion, and lo and behold, you see a mass of Hollows rushing you.

<%TiberiusAudley> Finally, we have the potential for a Defend the Siege sort of quest.

<Ferrous> Which you take out with one PB

<%TiberiusAudley> Escorts would be a lot easier now. Learn the spawn points…take your client through the forests to avoid ‘em all

<Akuyazi> random npc’s in the overworld give you quest to escort them to safe area

<%TiberiusAudley> And you don’t have to worry about your NPC going and getting itself mauled.

<BMLeo> the escorts should be relative to your stats

<AsE-CSS|Darkside> survival would actually be very interesting, i dont think i have seen a mmo do that before

<%TiberiusAudley> But their Overworld opens so much potential for new quests, such as Defense, Survival, Escort, Exploration, and Hunting sorts of quests…

<super-entE> what happens if you failed ?

<BMLeo> like 75% stats compared to you

<Ddr> clients being escorted should maybe be a class\build that is opposite of you to make it more challenging

<%TiberiusAudley> Same thing as if you abandon it, Super-ente.

<%TiberiusAudley> Just, you lose that potential reward and hafta start a new quest. If it’s a random quest, your reward would get rerolled.

<super-entE> i think this should be more like maps, if you failed you have to find someone new

<BMLeo> also will there be a quests per day limit

<Firedogking> I want a new type of Cartogropher quest.

<Firedogking> Group ones.

<%TiberiusAudley> But…one of the other big portions of the Overworld patch that’s upcoming is a transition from “maps” to Runestones!

<Nuadre> cartographer quests would be fun

<throwawayloki> Ohhhhh goood idea- instead of a boss you have to fight a npc with skills that you can get as players, like pvp versus a comp

<Firedogking> Epic Carto quests that would require groups.

<Reader> is there a way to keep the game from being level 2-8 to go here and instead being 1-50 on all quests

<%TiberiusAudley> From Travis — We also now have the concept of Runestones and Runegates, which are basically the new form of ‘purchaseable’ map. Runegates are scattered around the overworld, each with a different color. You can purchase Runestones, which unlock these gates and let you travel to special random dungeons. You can also travel to any opened Runegates that party members may be in. Don’t worry, there will be Epic Runestones

<+whiskey> can we get a logbook? Even something old school that simply lets user type note and save it. A more robust log that recorded where crafting items were sold and resources dropped would rock. :)

<%TiberiusAudley> Nuadre: From the description, I assume Runestones are just a reworded form of “Map”

<super-entE> is there also a “town portal” charm ?

<Akuyazi> the town portal charm is new as well

<Firedogking> super its called REcall charm and the hearthstone.

<Akuyazi> “Your Recall Charms now take you back to an actual town ( and open a return portal there ). This is not only handy, but provides you with an easy way to get your party members in to play with you right away without any tedious trekking through random woods.

<Ddr> maybe a seperate slot that would be called ‘Runestones’ in your inventory?

<Akuyazi> log book would be cool

<%TiberiusAudley> Instead of, Hey, open up a map and it’s added to your atlas…

<throwawayloki> will there be a limit to the runstones being active, liek there awas a limit to areas in your map?

<%TiberiusAudley> You take a runestone to a random runegate portal, activate the runestone, and venture off to your dunngeon.

<Nuadre> ah ok, so they’d be added to your atlas like where you can warp now, cool, thx

<Saveme> My guess is the Runegate is a dungeon entrance but the Runestone is the Map Code.

<%TiberiusAudley> The good thing about it is that they don’t disappear, they bind to you, one at at ime…

<%TiberiusAudley> So you can FINALLY leave a dungeon.

<Ddr> will the runestones be tied to a runegate or will it just be any stone to any gate

<%TiberiusAudley> • When entering a dungeon, it remains ‘anchored’ for you. That means that I can walk into a cave, walk back out, wander around, and then come right back to the same cave I was in. You are allowed one ‘anchored’ dungeon at a time, so entering another dungeon will ‘reroll’ the one you were in.

<%TiberiusAudley> This poll is futile, it doesn’t matter if you want us to wipe or not for Overworld. The fact of the matter is we have to. There’s a new database structure, a new world, and characters will just break hehehe. I faced the same problem when I had characters setup to do media screenshots with on our test server. They put overworld in and now my game crashes if i try to get on those characters that were existing. Sorry guys, it’s just how it works
when you change this significantly. Now, whether we can reset back to level 1 or not,
that’s something that needs to be discussed in depth at a later date.
Again, this is just a heads up that it will most likely happen. If it doesn’t, then joy
